Message from Paul Rybarczyk - October 30, 2023

I want to thank the over 30 members who have paid their dues (currently $45 until November 5th).Dues will increase to $50 after November 5!!!!!We also have 6 new members join so far... I will go over the entire list of new members in a later email and welcome them to the CCUA!!!
For those of you who have not paid, please get the dues in by next weekend. I plan to open up self-assign to those individuals who have paid their dues at that time.
With regards to assigning.. I still have to input the following schedules: Mt, Carmel Marmion Notre Dame IC Prep all levels DePaul lower levels I still have over 100 varsity assignments to fill. I am sending games out periodically in an attempt to balance officials at the various schools. I am trying at the varsity level to not send an official to that school more than 3 times. You may see me unassign you from games due to this. Also, with St. Patrick's and DePaul - the times and dates are tentative at this point. They have yet to meet with the Park District to finalize the Kerry Wood schedule, so time/dates could be adjusted. When I get those changes, you will be notified.
#1I realize other assignors may be starting their process of assigning. In March, I will have games available on all days except Sunday. In April, the CCL plays on Mon, Tues, Thur and Saturdays. Rain out dates are Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. I am not telling you what to do, but please do not feel you have to fill your entire schedule in November. There will be games available from other assignors during the season. #2 It is an expectation that umpires will do some travelling to take games from our league on occassion. The CCL coaches reminded me at the meeting that our officials are now getting paid a good chunk of change for umpiring and this includes gas costs! I do not expect you to go out to Aurora, Elmhurst, Wheaton, Niles or Wilmette on a regular basis. But if I am in the need for someone to cover a date/school, please be open to doing this. For new umpires and veterans, I have always tried to keep umpires close to home and with my original assignments I have done just that. But with the new schools, I may need more coverage in those areas. If everyone chips in one or two dates, this will make it much easier. #3It is my hope that varsity umps, could also take one or two lower level dates in your geographic area if you are open. Lower level games are $90...not bad but are one man (except Providence which is $80 two man). If you know of LOWER LEVEL umpires in the western suburbs, please have them contact me. It would be so appreciated. It is not the varsity games that I have issue with it, but the F/S and JV games that could be an issue. LASTLY... And I really do need to say this in every email: if you have had games sent to you... Moving forward you will have 72 hours during the preseason ( during season 24 hours will be the deadline) to accept or decline them. Some umpires do this instantaneously when they get the Arbiter message. Others take their sweet time. Well sweet time is now 72 Hours! If you have games currently in acceptance state, you have until Wednesday to accept them. If you do not want to do them, just decline them. I just want to move on and assign it to someone else. Next man up!!! Thanks!!
You have 7 more days to pay your dues...please make it a priority!! Thanks very much to those that have!!!
Paul
