1) Our clinics are designed to be learning experiences. No matter if you have worked the IHSA State Series or if you a 1st or 2nd year umpire, the CCUA focuses on umpire training. I would hope to see umpires taking down notes on things we feel that could make you a better umpire. That is our goal over the four hours. We want our umpires to be the best in the business as we are being paid to be just that!
2) We will be going over a variety of infomation and this year we will spend some time with Arbiter and the IHSA Officials site. So please have the ability (iPad or phone) to access this during our clinic. Also bring your NFHS rules book with you if available.
3) There will be a Panel Q/A midway through the clinic. I know there are always alot of questions that umpires have on clinic day. To better prepare our panel, I would like you to send me questions you currently have about game situations, implementation/interpretation of rules, or what to do if this happens/ scenarios. Email these prior to the clinic (by Wednesday and Thursday) so I can forward them to the Panel and they can better assist you with rule citations and rule book location. Time has been set specifically for this in the clinic agenda!
4) One of the CCUA focuses this year is placing a heavy emphasis on mentoring - I will discuss what this looks like at the clinic. I also plan to send out to umpires being mentored a schedule on when this will occur (your current scheduled games) and umpires that will be mentoring you. We need to make knowing the rules and utilizing proper mechanics on the field, and professionalism on and off the field a priority especially with expansion of teams being assigned next Spring 27.
